Spadra Trail System

The Spadra Creek Nature Trail is a beautiful and enjoyable walk that has been
taken by many people since it
was dedicated to the Arkansas Trail System in 1983.

The trail starts at the Iron Bridge which can be accessed between the old Wendy's and McDonald's at I-40 Exit 58.

From the Iron Bridge, the Spadra Creek Nature Trail runs north on both sides of Spadra Creek. The west side of the creek is paved and ADA accessible with security lights, picnic tables, and benches. The east side of the creek is a natural path with some steep hills and heavily wooded terrain.

East Side 1.3 Miles of Natural Trail
From the Iron Bridge to the Maple St. Trailhead, the east side is one-half mile. This may be the most beautiful section of trail, and is accessed by the stairs at the Iron Bridge and follows along the creek.

The trail then enters the forest, crosses two wooden foot bridges, passes a picnic area, crosses another foot bridge, then proceeds up slate hill to the Maple St. Trailhead.

From Maple St. the trail continues north eight-tenths of a mile to the Main St. bridge. This part of the trail was constructed as a bridle path by the Civilian Conservation Corps during the 1930s. This section of the trail passes the Poplar St. access which is a 200 ft. steep gravel stairway built by the local Boy Scouts.

West Side 1.7 Miles Paved and Lighted
The west side was upgraded in the fall of 2004 through a grant by the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department. This newly paved and lighted trail is ADA accessible and has a jogging and bike lane. It follows the tree covered road bed which was once used to transport coal from Spadra to downtown Clarksville. This very relaxing walk includes a section along the edge of a pasture, where deer are often seen, then rejoins the old road bed until it reaches the levee.

The trail rises to the top of the levee and follows it to the University of the Ozarks campus at the College Avenue Trailhead.  This section passes the American Legion "Castle" and crosses both Main Street and Cherry Street.

We hope you enjoy using the Nature Trail. Please remember to be careful and watch for traffic at the crosswalks!
